João Falcão e Cunha is Professor and Director of FEUP, Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto. Between 2013 and 2018 he was a delegate from Portugal to the Horizon 2020 Program of the European Union, in the societal challenge of Intelligent, Ecological and Integrated Transport.
He holds a Bachelor Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from FEUP in 1983, a Master's degree in Operational Research from Cranfield University in 1984 and a PhD in Computer Science from Imperial College London in 1989. He has been involved in experimental and theoretical work in Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Operational Transportation Planning and Industrial Engineering and Management for the last 30 years.
He was director of the courses of Integrated Master degree in Industrial Engineering and Management, Master degree in Engineering of Services and Management and of the Doctorate program in Industrial Engineering and Management of FEUP. He was president of the College of Computer Engineering of the Order of Engineers and member of the national management team of the CMU Portugal Program. He was co-founder of the creation of several courses at FEUP, in particular the Computer Science and Computing course.
